Presentation of paintings by emerging artists from racialized communities
February 7 to March 27, 2021

Montreal, February 5, 2021 – The Compagnie Théâtre Créole / Konpayi Teyat Kreyòl joins forces with the Bibliothèques de Montréal network to celebrate the contribution of members of racialized communities to Canada’s artistic heritage in thepainting exhibition Un regard complice en temps depandémie. A hybrid exhibition that respects sanitary measures, it runs from February 7 to March 27 as part of Black History Month.

“This project is intended to be an open space where emerging artists from Quebec’s diversity can share their talent,” says Nerlande Gaétan, exhibition curator and project manager for the organization.

Tamara Pierre-Louis will present several works, including “La Montréalaise” and “Multiculturelle”. You’ll also be able to discover the art of Bétina (Tina) Antoine, a self-taught young woman, and Sheena, of Haitian origin. Florwing Ogé, a multidisciplinary artist, will be exhibiting her latest creations. Tima will share her love of painting through her symbolic works.

Founded in Haiti in 1999, Compagnie Théâtre Créole has been operating in Canada since 2012. This non-profit organization’s mission is tosupport racialized cultural entrepreneurs and artists, particularly Creole-speaking ones, to enable them to make a living from their art. The Compagnie Théâtre Créole team is the instigator of two festivals: the Festival théâtre communauté des Noirs, to pay tribute to Afro-descendant artists during Black History Month and Anti-Racism Week, while embracing the struggle of women and World Theatre Day, and the Festi Théâtre Créole, a multidisciplinary festival showcasing Creole culture. To help break down isolation and facilitate the emergence of talent from this so-called community.

In passing, we should also mention a flagship activity during the pandemic initiated by the Théâtre Créole company “Je dis à la maison”, a virtual literary activity that brings together several artistic disciplines: poetry, song, dance, slam, humor and theater every last Thursday of the month.
