Successful launch of the 8th Festival Théâtre Communauté des Noirs (FTCN) by the Compagnie Théâtre Créole
On February 28, 2028, in the midst of the celebration of Black History Month, the Compagnie Théâtre Créole (CTC) inaugurated the eighth edition of its Festival Théâtre Communauté des Noirs (FTCN). The event attracted a large and diverse audience of academics, artists, students, cultural workers and professionals, underlining the growing resonance of this festival in Montreal’s cultural life.
Under the rallying theme “ Get involved in your community “, the launch was held in the CLC’s brand-new space at 5322 Jean-Talon Street East in Montreal. The room, named Riché Kenscoff in memory of a dedicated actor, embodies the company’s commitment to artistic transmission and continuity.
Festival director Ralph Civil, delivered a rousing speech, hammering home the message: ” This theme is not just a slogan. It’s a call. A call to solidarity, a call to collective responsibility. A call to action. “In a world marked by individualism, the FTCN is asserting itself as an essential meeting place, raising awareness and encouraging civic commitment to build a stronger, more united community.
An eloquent evening to launch the festivities
The inaugural evening was rich in artistic performances. The audience was captivated by the warm and engaging voice of Jean Jean Roosevelt. Artist Stevenson Michel also delivered a much-appreciated performance, while actor Hector Pierre Nazon moved the assembly with an intense theatrical interpretation. The atmosphere was both festive and imbued with a powerful collective energy.
This evening was just a foretaste. The FTCN will run until March 28, 2028 in various cultural venues, offering an eclectic program combining theater, music, meetings and discussions. The Compagnie Théâtre Créole invites the public to consult its various online platforms so as not to miss any of the upcoming activities and performances.
The CTC: a beacon for cultural diversity
Founded in 1999, the Compagnie Théâtre Créole has become a driving force for Francophone and Creole diversity in Quebec. In Montreal, it works to build intercultural bridges through the creation, production and dissemination of multidisciplinary works. More than a troupe, it is a place where Afro-descendant artists can come together and flourish, fostering inclusion and exchanges between generations around audacious projects.
Through this eighth edition, the Compagnie Théâtre Créole reaffirms its vocation: to make theater a privileged space for dialogue, memory and hope. Each performance is a celebration, a lively exchange between cultures and generations. The FTCN is more than just an artistic event; it’s a genuine invitation to commitment, love of neighbor and action for the common good.
