Montreal, September 13, 2022 – The Compagnie Théâtre Créole presents the 4 th edition of the Festithéâtrecréole, from October 27 to November 5, at several venues in Montreal, as well as online.
Audiences can look forward to ten days of activities: theater, poetry, music, humor, storytelling and talks on the Creole language and theater.
Under the theme: “Teyat, poto mitan nan divèsite a / Theater at the center of diversity.”
“Diversity is a key element in ensuring that everyone has their place in the community,” says Nerlande Gaetan, coordinator of the Compagnie Théâtre Créole and director of the Festithéâtrecréole. “As theater is a reflection of society, we see it as a fundamental tool for fostering the inclusion that is so hoped for in the performing arts.
The launch of the festival will be brought to life with a ” Poetry Broth “. Several Creole communities, including those from Madagascar and Reunion Island, will be on hand to bring their own colors to the table.
The eminent Franco-Haitian poet and playwright Faubert Bolivar is the guest of honor at this4th edition . Mr. Bolivar is also a teacher in Martinique, and has won several prizes in poetry and theater during his career.
The giant will be gracing us with a staging of one of his plays, ” Jesika “, which he has concocted with the great Canadian-Haitian pianist David Bomptemps , in addition to his participation in talks on the Creole language and theater.
For the previous edition of the festival, Compagnie Théâtre Créole made a number of technical adjustments to offer a hybrid edition, sometimes available online or in theatres, or both simultaneously, which the team intends to repeat this year.
