Our history

Our history

Founded in 1999, the Compagnie Théâtre Créole is a vibrant melting pot of French and Creole diversity in Quebec. In Montreal, we build bridges between cultures through the creation, production and dissemination of multidisciplinary works.

More than a company, it's a beacon for Afrodescendant artists. We bring them together around audacious projects, catalysts for inclusion, artistic fulfillment and intergenerational exchange. Every curtain-raiser is a celebration, every performance a dialogue.

The Compagnie Théâtre Créole is fully committed to raising awareness and promoting accessibility. We contribute to the democratization of access to culture, working to promote the theater of diversity and strengthen community ties, transforming each spectator into a privileged witness to a shared richness.

We strengthen the artistic and entrepreneurial skills of artists through our incubator and transform them into cultural leaders. Apply here to join the next cohort.

We produce and distribute the work of emerging and established artists, providing a vibrant platform where creativity takes flight and resonates with a diverse audience. Submit your artistic and cultural project here

We organize meetings, workshops and networking events, enabling artists to cultivate links that nurture their individual and collective development, enriching the artistic landscape and stimulating the emergence of innovative projects.  Click here to sign up for the Je dis à la maison artistic meetings.

Our shows and our artistic creation workshops are designed to raise awareness and encourage deep reflection on societal issues such as the isolation of seniors, women's rights, the cause of youth, inclusion and more. Register here for Art pour tous workshops.

We highlight the diverse artistic expressions of the Black community in Canada through our various shows and festivals.

Our shows include a variety of activities where all the artistic voices of the Black and diverse community can be heard and all groups can participate.

Our mission

The Compagnie Théâtre Créole's mission is to promote artists from diverse backgrounds.

This mission is divided into four essential aspects:

  • Continuous and innovative artistic CREATION
  • PROMOTING diversity in art
  • Raising awareness of black community issues
  • SUPPORT for emerging artists

What we want

We value the work of diversity to ensure better representation in artistic fields so that art can be used in education, the fight against family violence, mental health prevention and the fight against delinquency by offering alternatives to young people from low-income families.

We want a world where everyone is in touch with their own culture, their origins and their identity. We dream of a world where art is valued in its own right within communities, across generations and continents.

The values that drive us

CREATIVITY – Culture is our identity, our nature, the manifestation of our belonging to one or more communities. Art plays a fundamental role in this celebration, and creativity is its essence.

DIVERSITY – It's through diversity that we can share, explore, learn and build ourselves as a society. The Compagnie Théâtre Créole actively promotes diversity by organizing events that highlight Afrodescendant artists, women and emerging artists.

INCLUSION – In addition to promoting a multitude of diverse artists, Compagnie Théâtre Créole encourages inclusion through its programming of activities for young and old, and facilitates access to the arts by offering low-cost or free indoor, virtual and hybrid content in French and several Creole languages.
