The 3rd edition of Festithéâtrecréole, a multidisciplinary performing arts festival organized by Compagnie Théâtre Créole, will take place in Montreal and online from October 22 to 31, 2021.

Montreal, September 27, 2021 – The Compagnie Théâtre Créole is proud to present its3rd edition of the Festithéâtrecréole , whose hybrid program will run from October 22 to 31, both in several Montreal venues and online.

For 10 days, theater, storytelling, music, humor, poetry, workshops and talks will be on offer in a creative space where discoveries, exchanges and new friendships around Creole cultures come together.

October 22 marks the launch of the festival at the Conseil des arts de Montréal. Over the course of the days, there will be several talks, including one on the passion for reading among young people. The festival also includes a comedy evening, sales and signing sessions, a conference on the musical heritage of the French West Indies, and a special bouillon poésie edition of the Je dis à la maison – M ap di lakay mwen evening, to be held at the Espace Custeau at the Gesù on the evening of October 28. And let’s not forget the acoustic evening on October 30 with renowned Haitian guitarist Amos Coulanges. The festival will conclude with a play by Compagnie Théâtre Créole!

In addition, an exhibition of works by Marjorie Lovinsky and Marven Clerveau will be on display throughout the festival at the Rivière-des-Prairies Library.

According to Ralph Civil, director of Compagnie Théâtre Créole, a hybrid festival presents a technical and organizational challenge. But the opportunity this kind of event offers the Company to be more inclusive in its communication with the public is well worth the effort:

“With a window ajar on the face-to-face and the 2.0 experience we gained during the second edition with our online achievements, we’re ready for a third hybrid edition, with an inclusive theme: M se kreyòl nan divèsite a / Je suis créole dans la diversité.”

COVID-19 is still on the prowl, complicating this year’s Festithéâtrecréole. The Company is counting on the dedication of its cultural enthusiasts and the observance of sanitary measures to make this third edition a success:

“We’re into our third edition and the4th wave of the pandemic is still lurking around the corner,” says Mr. Civil. “With the barrier measures, we’re taking small steps, but we’ll surely get to where we want to be, which is to showcase the culture of Afro-descendants in the mosaic of Canadian diversity.”
