Montreal, October 16, 2020 Compagnie Théâtre Créole is proud to present its2nd edition of the Festi Théâtre Créole , whose ambitious program will be broadcast entirely online.

Over five days, theater, storytelling, music, dance, poetry, workshops and talks will create an innovative space for discovery, exchange and new friendships around Creole culture.

Festi Théâtre Créole is a much-needed event in these troubled times of global pandemics. I would like to invite the public to come and take part in the wide range of activities on offer, which can only bring us closer together in these times of social distancing.” Says actress and festival spokesperson Yardly Kavanagh.

October 28 marks the launch of the festival. We’ll kick things off by inviting our audience to dive into a “virtual” immersion of Creole culture with performer, director, poet, playwright and activist Rassoul Labuchin and author Manno Eugène. This will be followed by a visual art exhibition featuring works by Sandra Pasquis, Betina Antoine, Tima and JEV Production ; available online.

October 29 will be dedicated to poetry with the event “Je dis à la maison – M ap di lakay mwen”. During this evening, poets and lovers of verse from around the world will be invited to share excerpts from their writings in Creole, live from the comfort of their homes.

On October 30, we’ll be dancing and celebrating Creole culture with the rhythms and performances of Djenane St Juste and Afoutayi École de Danse. What’s more, we’ll be lucky enough to have with us young Montreal storyteller Winnie Jay, who will guide us in a discovery of the Amerindian roots of the Caribbean peoples by telling us their stories. Actor extraordinaire Édouard Baptiste (also known by the pseudonym “Youyou”) will also be on hand, gracing us with his talents in an excerpt from the play Bobomassouri.

During the festival, two Creole plays will be presented online. The first, “Antigòn ” (a West Indian version of Jean Anouilh’s French classic) will be performed by the Compagnie Théâtre Créole. on Saturday, October 31. Our second performance, ” Pèlen tèt”, by the legendary poet, playwright, painter and musician Franckétienne, closes the festivities on November1.

“It’s imperative to maintain this type of rendezvous with the public. We need to create opportunities for encounters to connect with each other and strengthen our collective bonds, particularly at a time when solitude can easily be engendered by the pandemic.” Explains festival artistic director Nerlande Gaetan.
